Transformer winding fault detection

• A novel analytical expression has been derived, perhaps for the first time, which correlates the transformer winding’s short-circuit natural frequencies to its basic parameters (i.e. L and C).
• This expression is expected to help in improved diagnostics and interpretation of the FRA data.
• Arising out of this expression, a method has been proposed for localization of Radial and Axial displacement in a single, isolated, actual transformer winding.
• Using this expression it is also possible to determine the equivalent air-cored inductance of an iron-cored winding from the frequency response data.
